Bio
Russell J. Greene is an Assistant Professor & Coordinator of Music Education at Alabama State University. He conducts the ASU Wind Ensemble and teaches undergraduate/graduate music education and conducting courses.
​
Dr. Greene's research focuses on teacher effectiveness, error detection, and multivariate reasoning. His research contributions can be seen in music publications such as The Journal of Band Research, The Instrumentalist, the Ala Breve, and The Horn Call. Dr. Greene has presented at the Alabama Music Educators Association Conference and the NAfME National Music Research and Teacher Education Conference.

Before coming to ASU, Dr. Greene worked as a full-time Instructor of Music Education at The University of Alabama. Prior to his work in higher education, Dr. Greene served as a band director in both public and private school settings. As the Assistant Band Director at Oak Grove High School, his marching ensembles performed in the BOA, SCGC, and WGI circuits, securing multiple regional championship victories. As Director of Bands at Trinity Presbyterian School, his marching and concert ensembles received consistently superior ratings at music performance assessments.

Dr. Greene is an active composer and arranger, most commonly working as a freelance marching band show writer. Since 2012, he has arranged halftime shows for bands throughout Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

Dr. Greene is a member of The National Association for Music Education, the Society for Research in Music Education, the Alabama Music Educators Association, ASCAP, CBDNA, the College Music Society, and the International Horn Society.
